On The 7th Day by Tamiko R. Evans

Friendship. A word that means so much to some and so little to others. What does it mean to be a true friend? Does it mean babysitting in a clutch or listening when she is mad? Does it mean you are only around when called upon or all of the above? Deep down we have to understand to have good friends we have to BE a good friend.

Savannah Jones is a self made woman. Not the way that you and I would thing, she is made because she know how to find money. Savannah’s daughter, Princess, is her world. There is nothing that she wouldn’t do for her daughter but she also realizes that she needs to take care of herself. While Savannah is on her cruise, she has to take some self reflection. What she finds is going to either make or break her but she has to do something soon.

Aimi/Jamie Aluko is a dreamer. She loves love and being in love. She will do anything to make sure that she has the love that she needs, even if she loses herself in the process. How does a dreamer continue on with happiness when the very thing that she needs to make her happy isn’t there anymore? Should she continue to sell herself short or is it time to take back her life?

Dr. Eve Carleton has it all. She is married to the love of her life, she is an ER doctor and she wants for nothing. What Eve realizes is that life has a way of playing a cruel joke on you and you have to figure out which way to go next or do you just stay still. How do you come back from such a life shattering event? Should she fight or should she just lay down?

On The 7th Day is a freshman novel from new author Tamiko R. Evans. The story of these three women is a story that you have seen or lived before. These women could be you and your friends on any day and you know how they are feeling. I like the way each chapter starred a character but they all were in the storyline. You never felt like you lost anyone. It is a realistic story which makes it an easy read. It is not overly emotional but you will have empathy for the characters. I think as this new author writes more stories, she will build on the emotion. Her stories will have you talking back to the characters, like this story starts to. All in all it is a good freshman novel, looking forward to seeing more from this author in the future.

Scandalous Acts: The Tianna Fox Story(A Christian African American Romance Series Book 1) by Kia Summers

Love. Is it something that everyone believes in or is it just a fantasy?  We have all heard of this thing called love but is it real or is it in our mind? Is there such thing as true love? If you have never been in love, how do you know that you are in love? Is it even worth trying to find out about this thing called love? But as the old saying goes Love Never Fails.

Tianna Fox is the owner of Pecan Restaurant, this funky little up-and-coming restaurant that is her baby at heart. She spends a lot of time down at the Pecan restaurant and she is well known in liked by her customers and staff. Tianna is trying to figure out a way to make it big in the industry, but she has other things on her mind also.  Tianna is part owner of The Cliff, a gym that she and her husband Eric opened.  Tiana loves her husband and she knows that he loves her also, but Tianna has a sneaky feeling about what is going on down at the gym.

Scandalous Acts The Tianna Fox story is the beginning of a juicy action filled series. Kia Summers has written a series that is going to be filled with plenty of drama. This series is a romance series and it is going to pull it your heartstrings while she gets to the bottom of everything. Summers has gotten you interested in these characters and she makes you want more.  I am looking forward to reading the books that follow this opening book. These characters are interesting. Good job on the beginning series of Scandalous Acts.

Love, Sex and Ink: Season 1: Episode 1 by Keith Kareem Williams

Love is a strange thing. Love will make you happy, it will make you sad. Love will make you do strange things and act in a way that you never have before nor ever will again. But the main thing is love is powerful. It’s your job is to be very careful with it.

Cole is a simple man. He gets up, goes to work and comes back home. What he didn’t realize was that just the simple act of going to work would be so hard. Cole is half owner in Love, Sex and Ink tattoo shop. This shop is his second love, his daughter Amber is his first. Amber is the product of Cole’s and Vida’s love. Cole and Vida’s love was forever until it wasn’t then they decided to pursue their true love: being parents to Amber and owning their tattoo shop that they opened together. With the knowledge of knowing how tricky love is, will it be possible for Cole and Vida to run a successful tattoo shop together?

Love, Sex and Ink Season 1: Episode 1 is indicating in the title that this is the beginning of a block buster series! The book has everything that you need as far as a series would go. You have love, romance, drama, sex and raw emotions which is enough for anyone who is an avid reader. This Episode 1 is a quick read, a mere 100 pages, which a sequel book should be. What this episode does is it makes you want to read the next episode and see where this story goes. Not only do you have your two main characters but you have the other tattoo artists: Ness, King Hippo and Little Byrd. Plus who knows what is going to happen with the people in the beauty shop next door. Williams is the type of author who makes you want to know what he is writing next. I am patiently waiting on the next installment of the Love, Sex and Ink series. This Season 1: Episode 1 is currently for purchase on Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback editions) and BN.com (Paperback only).

Her 13th Husband by B.M. Hardin

Her 13th HusbandMarriage.  A lifelong commitment.  A vow between two lovers.  To love, honor and respect until death due us part.  That is a heavy statement for anyone to make one time, but when you make that vow multiple times people start talking.  Are you really marrying for love or is it something else?  How do you know when it’s enough?

Ivy Raye is a simple woman.  She gets up and goes to work and back home she goes.  Her best friend is her mother, Mama Kay.  Ivy only has one problem, she loves to get married.  I guess that would be a good thing for any other single woman who has been looking for a mate but Ivy seems never to have a problem finding the next one.  Mama Kay doesn’t seem to find a problem with Ivy marrying so many times, she just wants her daughter to be happy.  If Ivy’s happy then Mama is happy, but the moment Ivy is no longer happy then it is time to move on to the next one.

Her 13th Husband is a book that will keep you looking at the pages thinking “I know she didn’t!”  The way that B.M. writes this book you are just waiting on the other shoe to drop . . . And it does!  The cast of characters (no matter how short lived) will have you talking back to the book.  When they ask a question in the book, you find yourself talking to the book asking the same question!  It is a great read as usual coming from this author, I have read several of her novels and I have been pleased with each of them.  Double check you proofreading and spell check but over all it was a very good read.  I would recommend it to everyone.

Frienemies by Janie De Coster

frienemiesIn these times, words have different meanings than what they used to have.  You can not use certain words with everyone because everyone is not deserving of the pure  definition.  Take the word friend, it used to mean something if you were called a friend.  It meant that another person trusted you enough to consider you like you were a part of their family.  With the way that society is now with everyone for themselves, the word friend is thrown around so loosely that you might as well be a stranger.  For that very reason, you have to choose your words and friends wisely or you might just end up with someone who you would consider an enemy rather than a friend.

Natasha is a beautiful, single, successful woman.  She should be every man’s dream but she seems to be striking out in the love department.  Just when she feels all hope is lost she meets Derrick Perkins.  He is a smooth brotha, easy on the eyes and Natasha is very attracted to Derrick.  Things look like they are going good between Natasha and Derrick.  Could Derrick be the one for Natasha?  Will this be her forever guy or is he going to be another one that got away?

Sloan is a very successful Marketing Director at Emerson & Stuckey.  He has worked there for years and his future is looking very bright.  Sloan just happens to works in the same office as Natasha.  Sloan and Natasha are best friends, have been since childhood.  They tell each other everything.  Sloan is protective over Natasha like she is over him and they will be friends to the end.  When Essence starts working there with them she takes a liking to Sloan.  Will this bring Sloan back to life or will he revert back to his old ways?  Is it possible to find love with Essence or will he just be alone?

Freinemies is a novel about love and trust.  The characters blend so well together that  you are engrossed in the book from the first page.  They make you want to grab and shake some of the characters and some you want to give a hug to.  De Coster captures you from early on in the novel and keeps you there until the end wishing and wanting to know more.  I look forward to reading more from this author.  Congratulations Janie on another successful novel!

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter by Kristofer Clarke

IMG_5930Relationship: a state of affairs existing between those having relations or dealings.

Everyday we have relationships with various people.  Our relationships include our spouses, families, co-workers and friends.  In any relationship the one thing that make it work is trust.  If  you can’t trust the people who you interact with on a daily basis it makes for a very strained situation.  Some can be fixed and some fall apart.  We have to figure out what is indispensable and what is not worth the trouble.

Kennedie and Winsor Oliver had a great marriage.  They were deeply in love and had a handsome son Tanner to prove their love for each other.  Kennedie was raised by her grandmother and that gave her a kind heart.  Even though Kennedie had a rough start in life with her mother she still persevered.  One bright day upon returning home, Kennedie had the rug snatched right from under her feet and her life started to spiral.  How had she missed this?  Could this be possible?  What will she do from here?  Will this darkness last forever or will she make it through this trial?

Michaela and Zachary McKnight marriage just ok.  It wasn’t for lack of trying but  something just wasn’t there.  You think back to a time when you looked at each other and all you saw was love but now you are trying to figure out what happened.  Is there a certain event that makes your love start to dwindle or is it just time?  How do you know when to say when?  How do you react when you realize that the person that you love has betrayed you?  Do you try to make it through the storm or do you throw you hands up in the air?

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is a book about trust in relationships.  Not just marriages but family relationships where they have been tried and tested.  These stories are about everyday people just living their lives but that’s what make it a good read.  These characters are very relatable and you might see your lives in theirs.  The story flows with such an ease that it makes it easy to continue on to the end.  I applaud Clarke for touching on taboo subjects to show us that healing is obtainable.  Thank you Kristofer!

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is available for purchase through Amazon.com (both Kindle and paperback), Barnes and Noble (Paperback only) and on the authors website:  http://www.kristoferclarke.webs.com.

Dreams Thrown Away ~ The Sperling Chronicles by Dilsa Saunders Bailey

dream_thrown_6x9-perfectebookDreams.  Dreams are a series of thoughts, images or emotions that occur while sleeping.  Having daydreams is something that is pleasurable for you while you are awake.  Most of us dream about what our lives would be like when we get older or what we want to be/want to do in life.  Whenever you hear someone say “I’m living the dream”, the things they thought about when they were younger is happening for them now.  Is it possible to live the dream or is the best we can do is hope for the best?

Kalina Denise Harris is a young girl with a lot of big dreams.  Kalina comes from a small town but she has big city dreams, and she can’t wait to leave this small town behind!  Kalina has dreams of going to a big college and leaving all of the sadness that she has to endure living in that smal town.  One day Kalina world is rocked to the core and now she doesn’t want to leave this small town that she calls home but she has no other choice.  What is she to do?  Where will she go?  How will she make it not being at home around people that she knows?

Dreams Thrown Away is a book about decisions.  Do we make the decision to follow our dreams, do we decide to fall in love and live happily ever after or do we decide to just make it through one day at a time?  This book has you on the edge of your seat with some of the situations that are happening.  You might be happy, you might be sad or you might just be in awe but whatever you are feeling you know that something in this book is causing you to feel that way.  I enjoyed the character interaction and the flow of this book, it is an emotional rollercoaster.  Bailey has written this book to make you want to read more.  This is my first time reading one of her books but not the last, I will gladly continue this series.

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine by Carla Terrell

9781985300620_p0_v2_s550x406Differences are what makes you unique.  There are many things that cause us to be different but at the same time it is what makes us similar.  Love is an act that is obtainable by everyone and everything but sometimes things are not supposed to love one another ~ that is according to the ones who feel like they speak for everyone.  We are in times where love appears different but who says that different is not good for us?

Austin Valentine is a god-loving, god-fearing man who loves all people.  He is business partners with his friend from high school and he is engaged to Haley, the love of his life.  When Austin get stranded in an elevator with a stranger for hours, conversations lead him to rethink his life and his thinking.  How could he be living life and been blind to life at the same time?  Is it possible that he has been wrong all this time?

Simone Watson is a beautiful, single African-American woman who is an interior designer.  There is nothing in her life that she would change, life is good.  A chance meeting with a stranger along with a conversation gives Simone something to think about, but why?  Simone has everything all figured out, so why is this stranger giving her pause?

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is a story about love.  The issues and problems that faces these characters is their race.  This is an easy but intense read.  For as much as society doesn’t want to deal with race, it is on the fore front of many minds.  This book has a nice flow to it and the author gives us something to think about.  I love Terrell’s work and I look forward to more.

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback) and everywhere you purchase your favorite books.

Something New: An Interracial Romance by Janie De Coster

something newIn the world that we live in today it seems like race determines everyones motive.  You can barely talk to anyone without race coming into the conversation, since when did race become so important?  When and how did race make decisions for the smallest of things?  Are we a better society if we let race rule our decisions or should we let fate take it’s course?

Brylane Robinson is a smart young woman with her entire future in front of her.  She has a job and she is taking classes to get her degree.  She used to believe in love until her now ex-boyfriend gave her a reason not to.  Brylane has dreams, dreams to leave the South side of Chicago and that mentality of we can’t do better because of where we are from.  She wants the American dream and she knows she can get it, on her own terms.  Will Brylane’s destiny be changed on that one fateful day that she is involved in a car accident?  Will she continue on course or will she detour and fall into that mentality that she has tried so hard to get away from?

Tobias Benton is a legacy kid.  His family has been in business and politics for as long as he can remember and he is next in line to take over the family business.  He thought that he was content with his current life until he determined that he is following a dream that was created for him NOT by him.  He does not have the same views that his family has and that is going to create waves for him.  How does he have the life that he deserves and keep his family happy at the same time?  If a decision is put in front of him, will he go along to get along or will he be the independent man that he was raised to be?

Something New is a romance novel.  From the title you can see that it is an interracial novel but the romance overrules the racial.  It is written about two people in love that just happen to be of a different race but that does not overpower the novel.  I love the way that De Coster makes this a standalone but it is clear that it could go into series.  The characters just flow with each other and you can see this playing out like it is right in front of you.  It has you asking questions of the characters and even talking back to them.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read, I read it in one day so you could too.

Something New: An Interracial Romance is available everywhere you buy your favorite books, Amazon.com (both paperback and Kindle editions), BN.com (paperback only).

Men@Play by Janie DeCoster

menplayDedication vs loyalty, is there a difference?  When you are dedicated to someone or something there is nothing you won’t do for them.  When you are loyal, you have a unwavering allegiance to someone or something.  Is there a point when your dedication should be put on hold or once you are loyal you remain loyal no matter what?  Who determines when and at what cost?

Donovan Lattimore is what the older generation would call “a piece of work.”  All through his high school career and after into adulthood he felt like he was entitled and if you didn’t do things his way Donovan was a force to be reckoned with.  It wasn’t until Donovan met a girl named Charlene Hamilton that he was starting to question his actions like never before.  What was it that this girl had that made Donovan attempt to change his way of thinking?  Could the almighty Donovan Lattimore be under the spell of the one person who no one would ever thought that he would be associated with?  Or does he have an agenda for Charlene?

Winston Taylor is the best friend of Donovan.  Some would think that Winston doesn’t have a brain of his own the way he is Donovan’s’ “yes” man.  The one thing that has Winston’s brain all twisted more than Donovan is his girlfriend Dawn.  Dawn is the one person who can break the spell that Donovan has over Winston but when they go head to head over Winston there are casualties in that war, but who will that be?

Men @ Play is a book about relationships.  Some are easy and some are not but the one thing that is consistent is that there is a constant relationship of some sort going on at all times.  The characters interact well and they keep the story flowing very easily.  The book have some twists but it is very easy to follow.  There were some grammatical errors that if you were not paying attention to the story you might get confused (like mixing up names) but all in all this is a good story.  I would suggest to the author if it can be updated and corrected on Amazon, I would do that.  I have read this author before and I know her work and this is not the norm.  It is still a book worthy of purchase.

Men @ Play is available for purchase on Amazon.com in Kindle form.
