Wounded by Ben Burgess Jr.

WoundedHurt people hurt people is a phrase used regarding people who have been hurt in life by someone who they cared for and in turn they hurt people who care for them.  It is an ongoing cycle because of their previous hurt and most times they don’t even realize that they are purposely hurting people or why they are hurting them.  This type of destructive behavior happens more often than not but the real question is can it be stopped or do they WANT to stop it?

Samantha Miller from as early as she could remember has had horrible memories of abuse in her life.  Sam’s mother was a junkie and would pimp her out for a fix to any and every man who would help her.  It is no wonder that Samantha has commitment issues and issues with men in general, but because of her earlier years this has also made her put up a wall so high that only her two friends Silka and Jamie and ever get through to her.  Adding to her disdain for men, Samantha is a dancer so she really see men as nothing individuals.  Using her stage name Isis, her main goal is to convert as many women who are straddling the fence as she can and leave them broken and wanting more.  That is until Sasha started working at the club and she sets out on her newest conquest only to be thrown for a loop.  Will this cycle of hurt continue on or will “Isis” be stopped in her tracks and converted into a new woman?

Wounded is a story dealing with today’s issues ~ child sexual abuse, rape, sexual discovery, gay bashing and general gender discrimination.  Life is hard enough just LIVING without having additional issues to boot and this book takes you through some of the issues that are ongoing in today’s society that once was hidden but have come to the forefront.  I applaud Burgess for writing this type of book, it is not easy to write a book about something that you don’t have first hand experience with but is a touchy subject.  I enjoyed this story it sends you through a variety of emotions and that is one of the things that I look for in a drama novel.  The characters make you feel like you are experiencing what they are going through or have been through.  I look forward to more works from Burgess in the future!

Sir, Yes Sir by Mike Warren

Sir yes sirSir, Yes Sir is the third and final installment in this series and Mike Warren does not disappoint.  He brings you the same high-powered energy as the first two novels and makes you smile with anticipation knowing that you are going to get a great read.

Sean Matthews is back and now being stationed in Hawaii.  Sean has taken someone with him that he believes will bring him joy but we have come to know Sean very well and we know his appetite and we KNOW that he can not be satisfied by just one.  Sean gets the chance to go back to Baltimore to take care of some business and while there he is met with many surprises.  Some of them are overwhelming to the point that it seems like he just won’t make it through but we know that Sean is a trooper and can handle anything, or can he?

Sir, Yes Sir is the conclusion to this trilogy and does Warren wrap it up with a bang!  You have twists in this book that you didn’t see coming and it keeps you interested all the way until the end!  The characters both new and old mesh well together and Warren has done a great job with this series.  I have enjoyed reading his work and I look forward to reading more in the future.  Kudos to you Mike Warren!

Sweet Swagger by Mike Warren

IMAG0057Being in love is a great thing but it is always so complicated, what to do, when to do it and how to do it.  Just when you think that you have everything figured out you start thinking again when you should just follow your heart.  Or should you?

Sean Matthews has returned and true to form he does not know how he should go about expressing his feelings without causing confusion for everyone involved.  The only thing that he is clear about is that he likes men and women both so that makes it about as clear as mud, but in Sean’s mind everyone should understand because he has finally figured things out thanks to his best friend Cameron’s help.  To make matter’s worse, now Sean has been thrown in the Stock Aide for a murder!  Did he do it or didn’t he?  There is always drama and confusion when Sean is around but no lack of excitement!

Sweet Swagger is book two in this series and it is drama filled and action packed as Sean takes us on yet another rollercoaster ride with his lifestyle and the drama that he is bringing with it.  Warren gives you details into these characters that have you going through the emotions with them and rooting for love and wishing for people to just leave the book so that everyone can just be happy.  You meet some new characters in this book and they work well with the ones that carry over from the last book, A Private Affair.  I love Warren’s writing style and I am definitely look forward to reading more from him in the future.

Sweet Swagger is available for purchase from Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback), BN.com (Nook and paperback) and the publisher’s website:  www.lifechangingbooks.net.

A Private Affair by Mike Warren

a private affairStarting a new life is great and sometimes scary but if you find the right person to share it with then everything should be just fine.  How do you know if you have found the right person when it seems like everything that you thought was right might not be right anymore?

Sean Matthews is a young man with everything going for him: a beautiful new wife, a healthy baby boy and a promising career in the United States Army.  He is having a hard time living away from his family but he gets to go home to see them every weekend so that helps him out some.  Sean and his roommate Cameron have begun to hang out more since Cameron has no family near the base and Sean family does.  Cameron is trying to show Sean the fun side of hanging out with him but Sean is not really trying to hear what Cameron is saying or is he?  For as much as Sean is trying to fight his true feelings, they are beginning to show more and more and it is becoming a problem to hide not only from the world but from himself.

A Private Affair is a well written novel that is a quick read at 240 pages because the story line is strong with exciting drama and suspense.  Warren is a great storyteller and this story has you wanting more, I look forward to reading more from this author.

Second Thoughts by Kristofer Clarke

Patrick McKay is haunted by his past in so many ways that every time he thinks that he is correct one wrong two more pop up.  When Patrick try to turn to the one person in the world who is supposed to make everything alright, his mother Colleen, she just adds one more piece to the puzzle of his life that is not fitting correctly.  Who will Patrick turn to now?

Chance Parker is Patrick’s younger brother and second round draft pick in the NBA.  He is popular with the ladies and trouble in the making.   Chance has always looked up to Patrick and that is the way that Patrick wants to keep it, but when family secrets start falling out of the closet will Chance and Patrick be able to keep that close relationship or will this tear them apart.

Colleen Parker, Patrick and Chance’ s mother is not the woman that they thought that they knew.  She is supposed to protect her children and keep them safe but it seems like Colleen has put them in more of harm’s way than anything.  Will this revelation be what is needed to make the family stronger or will this tear them apart once and for all?

DeMarcus Nealon is a very promising NFL star and was very much in love with his wife Belinda until his accountant Taylor happened and sent his life into a tailspin.  Now DeMarcus is trying to piece his life back together but thanks to Taylor it is not going as planned.  So now DeMarcus has to come up with a plan to make Taylor feel exactly the way that he is feeling.

Taylor Duncan is a woman who knows who she is and what she wants.  When Taylor decides what she wants, nothing or no one is going to stop her from getting it and watch out if you get in her way.  The one thing that Taylor hasn’t counted on was anyone else having just as much determination as her to bring her world down.

Second Thoughts is a book filled with twists that keep you interested to the very last sentence!  I enjoyed the six degree of separation aspect that was used in here and it linked the characters and made you say “OH, I SEE!”  I truly enjoyed this book by Clarke and I look forward to more of his work.  Great Job!

Second thoughts is available for purchase through Amazon.com (paperback and Kindle), BN.com (paperback and Nook) and the author’s website:  http://www.kristoferclarke.webs.com/.

‘Til It Happens To You by Kristofer Clarke

‘Til It Happens To You is the follow-up book to Less Than Perfect Circumstance and it brings us back to two of our favorite guys Trevor and Jackson and life with them as they start their lives over after love tragedies.

Trevor Harrison is ready for love, always has been and has love to give.  After finally getting over his break-up from Kelvin, he is ready to go on with his life and he is happy.  Trevor has a very successful architectural business and he is very on his way, love is smiling in his face and life is grand.  Grand until the phone calls from the unknown caller starts to put doubt in Trevor’s mind.

Jackson Bradley is right there ready to receive the love that Trevor is giving out.  Jackson is kind, loving and everything that Trevor could ever ask for in a partner.  Jackson has something that he needs to tell Trevor about his past, but when will it be the right time to tell Trevor, will there ever be a right time?

Kristofer Clarke shows his literary growth in the second novel.  I like this story, his storyline is stronger.  I like the suspense of the mystery character, it had me guessing throughout the entire book and the twist of who it was made me say WOW!  Good job, looking forward to seeing much more from Clarke in the future!

‘Til It Happens to you can be purchased through Amazon.com (paperback and Kindle), BN.com (paperback and Nook) and the authors website:  http://kristoferclarke.webs.com/.

Less Than Perfect Circumstance by Kristofer Clarke

Six degrees of separation stories are my favorite because I love to see how the author makes the connections and you will see that in this story.

Dexter DeGregory is a prominent DC attorney who has been in a horrible car accident, physically he only sustained a scar but his deep mental scars is where his problem lies.  Will they ever heal or will Dexter just continue to just deal with them?  Who or where is he looking for love from and will he ever find it?

Trevor Harrison is a very successful architect who has just landed a contract that will put his architect business over the top!  But even with all of the pending success, it still isn’t enough if he doesn’t have the one that he loves around to share it with.

Belinda Todson is what you would describe as beauty and class all rolled into one.  She comes from a wealthy family and then she married money so she is used to having the finer things but as they say money can’t buy you happiness, right?

Less Than Perfect Circumstance is a book about love and love lost and how to bounce back from lost love, if that is possible.  Clarke gives you everything that you need to keep the storyline going, it is a little slow at points and there are some editing errors but I love the six degrees of separation concept.  Looking forward to more of Clarke’s work in the future.
