War Angel by Keith Kareem Williams

Love is supposed to be great, grand even but sometimes it is even stressful. Family even adds an additional component that can make you a little leery but you continue to press on in the name of love.  But what happens when your love is tested and you don’t know which way you should proceed?  Should you go with love or should you tempt fate?

Jahaira Ruiz was the daughter of Caesar Ruiz and she was the apple of her father’s eye.  She could do nothing wrong in her father’s eyes.  Jahaira wishes that she felt the same about her father.  Although Jahaira loves her father deeply he has disappointed her so much, she just doesn’t look at him the same.  It is almost like she pities her father.  When Caesar died suddenly Jahaira feels bad that she has treated her father so poorly, after all he was her father.

Lenox is Jahaira’s boyfriend and have been for two years.  They are in love. Lenox would love to take it to the next level with Jahaira but he has never met anyone from Jahaira’s family or her friends for that matter.  This is an issue for him but is it an issue that is big enough to cause problems for him and Jahaira or can he let this pass?

Hector works for Caesar and is a long time family friend.  Hector feels like he should have more standing with Jahaira in her life but Jahaira only looks at him like a brother.  Hector wants more and is willing to do whatever he has to do to get that across to Jahaira but will that work to get Lenox out of the picture or will Hector just be out in the cold.

War Angel is an action/thriller by Keith Kareem Williams.  This novel has a lot of suspense, action and drama and will keep you guessing until the end of the book.  I really didn’t know what was going to happen, sometimes you can predict what is coming but not in this novel.  I appreciate the fresh approach and the on the edge of your seat writing that this story has.  I have read stories from Williams before and I will be back for more.

Dangerous Times by Phillip Frey

In life we make decision on a daily basis.  Some of those decisions benefit us and some of those decisions could have been thought through a little better, but ultimately we made the best decision we thought at the time.  What would happen if our decision was based on the actions of others, would the outcome be different or would you make the same decision?  Should you throw caution to the wind just because it is someone else pulling the strings or should you still use a level head and make the best decision for the most positive outcome?

Frank Moore is living his life as best he can but he wants more and without his nagging wife Ty.  Ty is a woman scorned not only by her husband but also by her uncle Eddie and if it is the last thing she does Ty wants to pay him back for all of the pain that he has caused her.  Frank and Ty has come up with a plan to get her uncle back but all the while Frank has a plan of his own that doesn’t involve Ty.  Family secrets will hurt the family and the more secrets there are the deeper the pain will go.

John Kirk is just an average joe living an average life, not particularly happy but not totally miserable either.  He has a girlfriend Lisa that he loves, his mother Beverly just adores him and John gets total joy from restoring his old car ~ a 49 Ford.  But if John Kirk could just leave this life and have a new one he would if only he could get the chance, little does John know to be careful what you wish for.

Ben Hicks is a detective with scars ~ his son died, his wife has divorced him and his boss hates him.  Life couldn’t be better if he planned it that way.  Now as fate would have it, Hicks finds himself on the chopping block once again and he see no way out of this one.  If he could just leave this life for a new one, start over somewhere else he would be happier than ever before.  Wishes might just be granted for Hicks, but at what price?

Dangerous Times is a thriller.  The various characters have a six degree of separation situation because their paths are all intertwined and they don’t even know that they are trying to obtain the same goal for the same person.  I enjoy the suspense in this novel and the interaction of the characters and I would love to see them come again in another novel.  I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Phillip Frey in the future. Until I Met You by Annette Evans

LOVE.  Such a powerful word.  Yet the meaning is different for everyone.  One thing is for sure, there is a distinct difference between loving someone and being in love with someone.  It has been said that you never forget you one true love, time and time again that has been proven to be true but how you deal with that is up to you.

Nick Morgan best friend and college roommate of Kelly’s older brother David, comes from a nice upstanding family who expects him to work for the family law firm once he graduates from college.  That is his plan along with David, they have a plan all nicely laid out ~ until he met Kelly at the graduation and plans go haywire!  Where has she been all his life and can he live without her for the rest of it?  Only time will tell.

Until I Met You is a love story that will pull at your heart-strings because it will have you rooting and cheering for love.  The ups and downs of the romantic aspects of many of the characters in this story will have you cheering for many different people at the same time and just when you think you can give up on love, you are snatched back in and given another chance.  The characters all mesh together and work well together and give you an easy flowing easy to follow story that will leave you smiling in the end.  I truly enjoyed this story, I look forward to more from Evans.

Family, blood relatives are supposed to stick together through thick and thin no matter what.  That is just what family does.  When you find that your trust is broken with a family member, is there any way that you can repair that trust or is it just broken forever?

Honey Lamb is a broken spirit.  Honey is married to Mason and used to be so happy.  They had the perfect marriage ~ he loved her and she loved him, just the way it is supposed to be.  Every marriage has its ups and downs but when your trust has been violated and broken you are hard pressed to regain that trust.  Who do you turn to for help with regaining and rebuilding that trust?  Do you hope that the problems will work themselves out or do you go to someone who you know can help you get the job done?

The Blood Done Signed My Name is a book that will touch your spirit because it speaks to many different situations.  It is christian fiction so it does have scripture references but it also speaks of real life situations that people go through whether christians or not.  You do not have to be christian/spiritual to read this book because the story will touch you either way.  It is a very well written story about family, love, trust, despair and hope.  This is my first read from Melissa Ann Ricks but definitely not my last.

A Strong and Tender Thread by Jackie Weger

As a small child you have dreams of what you want to be when you become big and as you grow older many times those dreams will change as you understand reality.  When you are living your dream from the age of a small child you realize that there is NOTHING that you can’t accomplish.

Micah Davidson is looking for someone to work for him for a couple of months and he needs a quick and efficient worker.  Micah is a former student of Gabby’s father so this should help Gabby to make some money and help Micah at the same time.  Will these two strong personalities work well together or will this combination be volatile and explode before the work can get finished.

A Strong and Tender Thread is a very charming story about relationships, attempted relationships, failed relationships and love on different levels.  You have friends, spouses, lovers, ex-lovers and they way their interaction with each other is amusing and sensual and heartwarming all at the same time.  I enjoyed this story.  I love they way Weger write this story with the main characters and their back and forth interaction and I truly look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
