Diamond Dreams by Zuri Day (Book 1 Drakes of California series)

Diamond dreamsLooks can be very deceiving.  We have all been taught not to judge a book by its cover but with some things, you go according to first impressions without looking deeper into it.  First impression are supposed to be the window on which you determine how you are going to approach someone or something but as we all know, that is just not the case.  Sometimes you have to take a step back and see things from a different perspective in order to get the TRUE feel of what is really going on.

Diamond Drake is true to her name, she is hard but transparent and flawless.  She does what it is that needs to be done because she has come up in a family that doesn’t have time for mistakes and weaknesses.  Diamond has shown her parents and her brothers that she is more than capable to handle the family business and now it is time for Diamond to take the world by storm.  What will Diamond do when she comes in contact with the very person who can snatch the wind from her sails?  Will she continue to fight or will she show a side that many hasn’t ever seen before?

Jackson Wright is a very strong person, on the outside.  He is the head of his own construction company and seems to be holding his own against his competitors.  There are things that haunt Jackson from his past but that is what gives him the fuel to continue on to bigger and better success.  When Jackson is faced with his past will he let it be his fuel or will it burn down everything that he has built?

Diamond Dreams is definitely a love story in every aspect.  Love of family, love of siblings, love of family business and new and or building loves.  You can see this family as the family that you watch on tv and root for the underdog because you know scrappy has to come up to be equal with the rest of the family.  You see many different degrees of intensity in this story and it makes you want to know what will happen next.  Day is excellent when it comes to writing about people and their interactions with each other.  It is like she watches society and builds something worth reading and absorbing.  You will be pleased with this book and you will absolutely look forward to reading more

The Lines of Loyalty by Brittany Pitteard

Screenshot_2016-05-26-16-35-26There are different levels of loyalty.  You are loyal to a sporting team because you feel strongly about them good, bad or indifferent.  You are loyal to your friends because they have been there for you through thick and thin.  You are loyal to your spouse because they love you through sickness and health.  What are you supposed to do when you have to split your loyalty?  Do you stick with the person who you have been most loyal to or do you stick with the person who will make a difference in your life?

Carmen King was good at deception.  It wasn’t because she wanted to it was strictly about survival and she was going to survive at all costs.  Carmen is a beautiful teenager with the spirit of an older woman but she isn’t getting a chance to live those teenage years because of circumstances beyond her control.  How will Carmen continue to cope or will she crash and burn.

The Lines of Loyalty is a book about life struggles.  Yes there are friendships and relationships but the main point behind this book is survival.  You have friends who are going to be there for each other and new friends that are trying to be in the fold.  It is a compelling story and you will remain interested in the story line.  This is my first time reading anything from this author but it is not my last.  Great job Brittany, continued success!

The Lines of Loyalty is available for purchase through Amazon.com in both paperback and Kindle.

Sapphire Attraction by Zuri Day (Book 8 Drakes of California series)

sapphire attractionLove know no boundaries is one of the truest statements even spoken.  If you are fortunate enough to find love, how it comes to you or what it looks like isn’t going to matter to you.  Many have been attracted to a person and fought it because it was not “correct” in the eyes of others but who do you love for, yourself or the people around you?

Ike Drake Jr. is the COO of Drake Realty Plus and is very good at what he does.  He is strict and professional in all that he does and doesn’t ask for permission.  When Ike jr. is involved in a car accident, he loses all composure and turns into a person that sometimes he doesn’t even recognize.  The beginnings are rough but the ending is smooth as silk and no one would have guessed the reason behind it, not even Ike jr.

Quinn Taylor comes from a hard life.  Lost her mother at an early then lost her father not long after that and she turned into a rebellious teen.   She draws attention everywhere she goes, whether good or bad but she is ALWAYS noticed.  Is there anything that Quinn can do to get the target off her back or will she just be the center of attraction from here on?

Sapphire Attraction is book number eight in the Drakes of California series and if you haven’t learned anything else you have learned that we LOVE The Drakes!  The way that this family is portrayed is our family on any given day.  The dynamics of their interaction and the way that the story is told is more like watching a movie than reading a book.  Day keeps you involved with the story and makes you always want more.  I love her writing and I look forward to reading more from her.  Continued success!

Sapphire Attraction will be available for purchase June 1, 2016 and it will be sold everywhere you get your favorite Harlequin Kimani Romance and on Kindle download.

Reporter From Hell by Edgar Alan Cole

Reporter_from_Hell_Cover_for_Kindle (1)Life.  We all live one but how it is lived is not only determined by you.  Perception of how life is lived is a strange thing, two people can see the same thing and they will perceive it differently.  Is our own perception of our life more favorable or are we our worse critics?

Isiah King is an interesting person, this he already knows.  He takes us through his life from the age of five years old but he is already an old man in spirit.  Isiah is the type of kid who loves to play with children but also LOVES to be around older people.  They are extra interesting to him and he can gain a wealth of information from them.  But the one thing that Isiah could not figure out was the reason for the way he was feeling.  Isiah is seeing and feeling things that he doesn’t understand and no one can really tell him why.  The one thing that he does know is that he has an internal struggle that no one understands but he is trying to overcome it.  Will Isiah overcome his struggles or will he succumb to the urges and desires?

Reporter From Hell is a book about a young man growing up and coming into his own.  It is written from the view of Isiah and it is his version of how his life is going.  It is graphic with the language and the situations that Isiah is going through.  The story revolves around him and his family’s lives and their struggles.  While things are interesting enough, Isiah is a child with a child’s mind until later in the story and it shows.  It is an intriguing story but the story line is kind of jumpy, sort of all over the place.  The structure needs to be tighter and the grammar needs to be double checked.  All in all it is a decent read.

Reporter From Hell is available through Amazon.com (both Kindle and paperback) and BN.com (paperback only).
