It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter by Kristofer Clarke

IMG_5930Relationship: a state of affairs existing between those having relations or dealings.

Everyday we have relationships with various people.  Our relationships include our spouses, families, co-workers and friends.  In any relationship the one thing that make it work is trust.  If  you can’t trust the people who you interact with on a daily basis it makes for a very strained situation.  Some can be fixed and some fall apart.  We have to figure out what is indispensable and what is not worth the trouble.

Kennedie and Winsor Oliver had a great marriage.  They were deeply in love and had a handsome son Tanner to prove their love for each other.  Kennedie was raised by her grandmother and that gave her a kind heart.  Even though Kennedie had a rough start in life with her mother she still persevered.  One bright day upon returning home, Kennedie had the rug snatched right from under her feet and her life started to spiral.  How had she missed this?  Could this be possible?  What will she do from here?  Will this darkness last forever or will she make it through this trial?

Michaela and Zachary McKnight marriage just ok.  It wasn’t for lack of trying but  something just wasn’t there.  You think back to a time when you looked at each other and all you saw was love but now you are trying to figure out what happened.  Is there a certain event that makes your love start to dwindle or is it just time?  How do you know when to say when?  How do you react when you realize that the person that you love has betrayed you?  Do you try to make it through the storm or do you throw you hands up in the air?

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is a book about trust in relationships.  Not just marriages but family relationships where they have been tried and tested.  These stories are about everyday people just living their lives but that’s what make it a good read.  These characters are very relatable and you might see your lives in theirs.  The story flows with such an ease that it makes it easy to continue on to the end.  I applaud Clarke for touching on taboo subjects to show us that healing is obtainable.  Thank you Kristofer!

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is available for purchase through Amazon.com (both Kindle and paperback), Barnes and Noble (Paperback only) and on the authors website:  http://www.kristoferclarke.webs.com.

The Wrong Husband 2: The Finale by B.M. Hardin

wh2Marriage is probably the hardest job you will ever have in your life.  It is hard enough trying to figure out what you like and what makes you happy now you have to figure out and maintain what makes someone else happy too.  There has to be an easier way.  When you are getting to know a person and decide to get married, you are still learning about that person.  As long as you are together you will always find out something new about that person.  What if the new things you discover is something that you are not willing to accept or deal with?  How will your life proceed then?

Sassi is just making it by.  Never would she had thought that her life would be so complicated. While she thought she knew that she married the right man she had began to have doubts.  It wasn’t uncommon for a bride or groom to have butterflies on their wedding day, that was a big step!  What was uncommon was for her to continue to wonder.  Yes she loved Eddie and yes she loved their family but why was the butterflies still there after ten years ?  Had she always felt like this and just put it on the back burner or was this something new that she was letting come to the forefront?

The Wrong Husband 2 is picking up where The Wrong Husband left off.  You have everyone trying to be with and figure out who they are supposed to be with.  Hardin brings a new twist to this book and it had me walking away from the book to get myself together.  You have characters that will have you thinking “what in the hell is she thinking?” or wondering “where can I find this author, I’m mad now!”  I love writing that get you in your feelings, that makes the book more relatable to the reader.  The story line had a certain flow to it that allows you to keep up with is going on  and not be lost.  I will continue to read books by Hardin if she keeps writing like this!

The Wrong Husband 2: The Finale can be purchased on Amazon.com (both Kindle and paperback, Barnes and Noble (Paperback) and anywhere you purchase your favorite reading material.

Life After Death: A Romantic Suspense by TJ Graham

40587406 (2)When you get married you agree to love each other until death do us part.  Then what?  Death is final.  There is no doubt about that, but what about those left behind?  Is death final for them or is it possible to pick back up your life and continue on? Is it going to be you and your new person or is it always going to be three of you in the relationship?

Dr. Andre Lang is a dedicated husband and a father.  He loves his wife and daughter, they are his reason for breathing.  He is a successful OB/GYN and his wife Rene is Professor of African History at the University of Memphis.  They were living a great life in Memphis until one day when his world was shaken apart.  Where did his wife and daughter disappear to?  There is no reason for them to just leave, what has happened to them?  What if they don’t come back, what will he do?  How will he survive with his two reasons for living?

Mackenzie Hill is a wife and mother of three.  This is the life she has always dreamed of, it doesn’t get any better than this.  Just when you believe that everything is going your way, life throws you a curve ball.  Your life is turned upside down and you have to figure out how to make life work again.  Is it possible to have happiness after such sorrow?  Should you just hide in a corner or get right back up on that horse?

Life After Death:A Romantic Suspense is a very good read for a freshman novel.  This book has everything that you are looking for that the title proclaims that it has.  Your characters are interacting with each other and it seems familiar to you like you know these people or this could possible be your life.  You are reading and then you are laughing at and with some of the characters and talking to others.  Graham did very well in this break out novel and I look forward to reading more of his work.

Life After Death: A Romantic Suspense is available through Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback) and BarnesandNoble.com (Nook and paperback)

The Wrong Husband by BM Hardin

WRONGLOVE . . .HONOR . . . CHERISH . . .TIL DEATH DO US PART!  These words that are read during a traditional wedding ceremony are very specific, they are set up that way to give you some direction in married life.  If you know how to follow directions, marriage should be easy for you.  What happens when the directions aren’t followed?  How are you supposed to proceed in a successful marriage if no one is doing what is supposed to be done?  How do you get granted a do over or is it allowed?

Sassi is married to Eddie and has been for the past 9 years.  They met in a bar 11 years ago and they were both drawn to each others conversation.  They had two children as a result of this union.  Life should have been grand!  One of the disadvantages to being happy and doing well for yourself and your family is there is always going to be some miserable person that wants to bring you down.  The catch is they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  How do you get rid of this negativity in your life?  Do you fight to stay in the marriage or do you let this outside force interfere?

The Wrong Husband is an exciting book, you can tell that from the title.  Reading this book you will go through a range of emotions because the characters are just that good.  You will find yourself talking to the characters and waiting on them to respond to you.  The story line is strong and the characters flow well with each other.  You will not get lost reading BUT you won’t be able to predict what is coming next.  Very well written and it has you wanting more.  This is my first time reading a book written by Hardin but it is not my last.

The Wrong Husband is available everywhere you buy your favorite novels, Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback) and Barnes and Nobel (Paperback).

ROSARIO BY J. KENYARTA

PicsArt_03-03-07.30.28In life we keep secrets, not to be mean or malicious we just do.  Some secrets are just between good friends and others involve you directly but is it a good thing to keep secrets?  How or when should a secret no longer be a secret?

Mia Keys is a school teacher.  She is quiet and down to earth and doesn’t bother anyone.  Mia is trying to make an impact on her students but there is something that hangs over her head from her past that is trying to block her progress.  While leaving work for the holiday Mia comes upon a stranger to her but she is not a stranger to him.  What will she do now?  How does she get out of this situation?

ROSARIO is a novella that is the beginning of a series.  It is a quick read (under 100 pages) and there are questions but you want to know the answer.  It is a good read and I believe the author is going to make this a great series, I can’t wait to see what J. Kenyarta has next for us.

ROSARIO is available for purchase through Amazon (Kindle/Kindle Unlimited).

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine by Carla Terrell

9781985300620_p0_v2_s550x406Differences are what makes you unique.  There are many things that cause us to be different but at the same time it is what makes us similar.  Love is an act that is obtainable by everyone and everything but sometimes things are not supposed to love one another ~ that is according to the ones who feel like they speak for everyone.  We are in times where love appears different but who says that different is not good for us?

Austin Valentine is a god-loving, god-fearing man who loves all people.  He is business partners with his friend from high school and he is engaged to Haley, the love of his life.  When Austin get stranded in an elevator with a stranger for hours, conversations lead him to rethink his life and his thinking.  How could he be living life and been blind to life at the same time?  Is it possible that he has been wrong all this time?

Simone Watson is a beautiful, single African-American woman who is an interior designer.  There is nothing in her life that she would change, life is good.  A chance meeting with a stranger along with a conversation gives Simone something to think about, but why?  Simone has everything all figured out, so why is this stranger giving her pause?

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is a story about love.  The issues and problems that faces these characters is their race.  This is an easy but intense read.  For as much as society doesn’t want to deal with race, it is on the fore front of many minds.  This book has a nice flow to it and the author gives us something to think about.  I love Terrell’s work and I look forward to more.

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback) and everywhere you purchase your favorite books.

When The Vows Break by Janie DeCoster

when the vows breakOur society’s idea of marriage comes in many different forms nowadays.  The one thing that is constant is you BOTH have agreed to forsake all others ~ but do we really know what that phrase means?  Forsaking all others means of course being with only your spouse but in addition to that it also means putting your marriage and your spouse above everything else, except God of course.  When you start to put things in front of your marriage you lose sight of the real purpose, to love and honor them forever.  Were you being truthful when you entered into this agreement or were you being selfish?

Pastor Sidney Teal is the pastor and founder of Holy Word Holiness Church.  He has a beautiful wife, Olivia and three beautiful children and a very successful church.  They have worked hard at keeping up appearances but something has been feeling off in their marriage as of late.  Could it be that Pastor Teal is spending so much time at the church he is losing his connection with his wife or is there something else underlying?  Being a pastor should he just have the upper hand on relationships or should just being human like the rest of us come into play?

When The Vows Break is an intense novel.  I went through many emotions while reading and at one point had to stop reading to prevent from crying.  You are so drawn into the story line that you almost forget that you are reading a book, it feels more like a lifetime movie or a major motion picture.  You are so in tune with the characters and they are so relatable that you feel their turmoil.   The writing in this novel just flows and keeps you right in the mix of the story and you are almost relieved when it is over so that you can finally stop holding your breath.  I always enjoy DeCoster’s novels and this one is no different, as usual I look forward to more!  Great job!

When the Vows Break is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback only) and anywhere you purchase your favorite books.

One Day You Will by Kristofer Clark (An Attorney J.B. Graybourne Novel, Volume 2)

Ond day you willWhen you say the word family, that word is supposed to be synonymous words like safety, love, loyalty, trust and togetherness.  What happens when everyone in the family doesn’t understand that is the way it is supposed to be?  What to you do to try to keep the family as “normal” families are supposed to be? Should this be something that is the responsibility of the head of the family or should this be something that is worked on together?

Jelani Graybourne is a lawyer at the firm of Emanuel, Sullivan and Graybourne.  He is the second Graybourne to practice there, his father Stanley Graybourne helped build the firm and now Jelani has some big shoes to fill by working there.  How does Jelani concentrate on his work when there is something in the background that could destroy his life along with bringing his family down?  Jelani is a grown man, does he run to his father for help or does he take care of this issue on his own? Since family is supposed to stick together, will the family do just that or will they crumble like the others?

Syreeta Mercer is also a great attorney.  She has her colleagues afraid to go against her in court because she comes in to win and does just that.  She gets her strength from her father Reid Mercer, he was her shoulder to cry on when the going got tough.  With the death of Syreeta’s father, things went from bad to super strange.  With all of these new changes in her life, is it going to be possible to continue on the way that Syreeta has been groomed or will she crawl in a corner and cry?

One Day You Will is book number two in the J.B. Graybourne series.  This series is like riding a rollercoaster with these people.  They have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next!  It is drama, drama and more drama and you just love it!  It is not messy but it makes you feel like you are peeking in your neighbor window to see what all of the fuss is about!  I enjoyed the strong story line, the characters keep you engrossed with what is going on and make you want more.  You might just catch yourself talking to the characters while reading, wishing you were right there to handle the situation for them.  I enjoy reading Clarke’s work and I look forward to the next installment in this series.

One Day You Will is available from Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback), Barnes & Noble.com (Kindle and paperback) and wherever you buy your favorites books.

Black President: The World Will Never Be The Same by Brenda Hampton

black president1Being the President of the United States takes a lot of smarts and heart.  There are things that POTUS will undergo that regular people will never have to.  Once you get in office if you don’t show the world that you aren’t scared they will eat you alive and then you will be known as a has been.  How do you go about showing the world that you have earned your title?  Do you go along to get along or do you come out like gangbusters and take the world in your hands?

Stephen C. Jefferson is a no nonsense type of guy.  He is all about business and has no filter.  Once Stephen won the presidency he decided to get started on his agenda that he ran on and anyone who showed that they weren’t loyal was out of the picture.  If you weren’t on Team Jefferson you weren’t on any team at all.  Involved with his team was his mother and his wife, Raynetta and they weren’t exempt from being put off the team.  The one thing is for sure is when Stephen C. Jefferson puts his mind to something he is going to go ahead with it and anyone trying to stop him better beware!

Black President: The World Will Never Be The Same is a book filled with drama!  Clearly from the title you can see that we have another black president but the difference between the two you will see immediately!  The characters will keep you laughing in-between telling them what you think they should or shouldn’t do.  You are reading but it feels like you are watching them on tv and that makes for good reading.  Hampton shows you how a novel is supposed to be written and I always look forward to her next read.

Black & White by Ben Burgess Jr.

black and whiteFor whatever reason race relations have always been a difficult thing.  I’m not sure if it is a fear of the unknown or reliving our ancestors past but one thing is for certain, things are just barely better than they were back in the slavery days.  We have to do better.

Ben is a successful lawyer who is trying to become partner in his firm.  He is doing everything he possibly can to prove to them that he needs no he deserves the position but he has one major obstacle with them.  Should Ben sell his soul just to obtain partnership or should he be that respectable man that he was raised to be and let the chips fall where they may?

Bill is also a successful lawyer at the same firm who is also trying for the partnership.  While Bill has a good winning record, his chances for partner are greater than Ben’s for a reason that should not be taken into consideration.  How will Bill deal with receiving a position that was biased from the start?  Is he selling his soul or just going along with the flow?

Black & White is a book that even if you aren’t living it you can relate to.  It is about how without knowing all the facts, basically we all are a little racist.  Do we judge people on their character or on events that happened in the past?  This book makes you ask many questions of yourself and why you may or may not do things.  Burgess has brought an issue that has been plaguing society to the forefront and is making you think.  I love the story line and the way the characters make you feel like you are walking in their shoes.  I was asking question of myself while reading and to me that is the sign of a great novel and author.  I would encourage you to read this novel, great job Burgess!

Black & White is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback) and BN.com (Paperback only).
