Stalker by Brenda Hampton

When you hear the word stalker you immediately know that there is going to be problems. What causes a person to become a stalker? Basically it is some sort of obsession with a person. But why that particular person? Is it something they said or something they did? Were they extra nice and you took it to mean something else? Is there any way to stop a stalker or do they just stop on their own? Can you persuade the stalker to change their ways or is this something that is just going to have to play out? What do you do?

Abigal Wilson is a divorcee who is trying to get back into the dating scene, with a teenaged daughter to boot.  Her daughter, Kendall, is constantly fighting with her about every little thing. Her biggest fight is about the man she is dating, Brent. Kendall doesn’t like Brent and Abby isn’t listening because she is in love. Abby and Brent have date night one night and afterwards he tells her that they need to have a talk. The bomb he drops on her knocks her off her feet. She is resistant to accept his words and she decided to investigate what he told her. What Abigal finds out crushes her heart but she is not going to leave it at that. She will NOT be treated like this and if she is unhappy, everybody is going to be unhappy! Who if anybody will come out the victor? How will this change the lives of everybody involved?

Stalker, just by the title you can tell it is going to be drama. Whenever you read a Brenda Hampton book you know you are going to get a good story that will keep you on the hook until the last word and then some! This book has the energy that you need so that you will read until it is finished. I am reviewing the Audible version because just looking at the title I knew that this version would have me on the edge of my seat with my mouth agape! The narrator, Patricia Floyd, did not disappoint with this novel. You find yourself talking back and pausing the reading so that you can gather yourself. I loved this book and I certainly am never disappointed when it comes to Hampton. Kudos again on another great novel!

Stalker is available for purchase everywhere books are sold.

The Janes by B.M.Hardin

THE JanesThere is a saying ~ like minds think alike.  Would it seem correct that friends that hang around each other act similar?  Or even people who have the same name would appear to act alike?  Not so much like twins or triplets but non related people maybe acting like each other, is it because they want to be like that other person?  What are the chances that this can happen?  Is this done on purpose or by accident?

Mary Jane and her husband Brice are newlyweds who are looking for a house to buy.  They happen to luck up on a realtor who has the perfect house for them.  When they checked out the house, she was right ~ IT WAS PERFECT!!!  Joy overwhelmed them when they bought the house, and they also found that their neighbors were very friendly.  Maybe a little too friendly.  While they were meeting their neighbors, they discovered that there was something strange about the neighborhood.  While Mary Jane was trying to figure out what the issue was with the neighbors, the neighbors was trying to figure out why she wanted to be different.  Couldn’t she just go along to get along or was she going to be the outcast on the block?  Will the neighborhood survive if there started to be differences?

The Janes is a thriller.  This is a dramatic spin on The Stepford Wives and how they would act if everyone had the name Jane.  This novel will surprise you with the level that people will go to so that everything would appear perfect, at least according to them.  The characters seemed to get along and the story flows smoothly.  When there is strife within the community it gives you a sense of urgency because you know that it is going to be fixed in a way like no other.  The Janes is a very well written novel that is an easy read, you should be able to get through it in less than a day and be completely satisfied.

The Janes is available for purchase on Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback).

Former First Lady by Ebony Edwards-Ellis

F2888C8C-F17F-41E5-A7AC-84103F6E1815Being in love and being loyal are basically the same thing.  Being faithful to a private person who faithfulness is due.  What would you do for a person that you are in love with?  Are there things that you will do to prove your loyalty?  What are  you willing to sacrifice for the happiness of the person that you love?

Shelley Jane Diggs is an independent woman.  She is a freelance writer, music reviewer, book reviewer and an author.  She lives in her modest one bedroom apartment and is pursuing her next novel.  Never in Shelley’s life did she imagine finding a wallet and returning it to its owner would change her life so drastically.  All of a sudden Shelley’s day-to-day life became complicated at best, she was no longer this blogger she was now the most important woman in the free world.  Is this how Shelley imagined her life?  Is this something that Shelley is willing to deal with?  Is this something that she ever thought would happen to her in her wildest dreams

Former First Lady is a book about commitment and loyalty.  It is about showing how far you are willing to go for love.  Shelley is the type of character that we all know.  She is a working woman who follows her own mind but gets caught up with following her heart.  Her life is like anyone that you meet on the street or in any coffeehouse, she is ordinary.  Being ordinary makes her relatable and being relatable makes her us.  She could be anyone reading this novel and that is why you continue to read so that you can live through her.  Her character is complex but not so much that we don’t like her.  The characters are you and me and we like reading about ourselves.  Ellis writes this novel with hope in her eyes and heart and an eye for hope.  I enjoyed reading this novel from Ellis and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Former First Lady is available for purchase through Amazon.com in both Kindle edition and paperback.

Frienemies by Janie De Coster

frienemiesIn these times, words have different meanings than what they used to have.  You can not use certain words with everyone because everyone is not deserving of the pure  definition.  Take the word friend, it used to mean something if you were called a friend.  It meant that another person trusted you enough to consider you like you were a part of their family.  With the way that society is now with everyone for themselves, the word friend is thrown around so loosely that you might as well be a stranger.  For that very reason, you have to choose your words and friends wisely or you might just end up with someone who you would consider an enemy rather than a friend.

Natasha is a beautiful, single, successful woman.  She should be every man’s dream but she seems to be striking out in the love department.  Just when she feels all hope is lost she meets Derrick Perkins.  He is a smooth brotha, easy on the eyes and Natasha is very attracted to Derrick.  Things look like they are going good between Natasha and Derrick.  Could Derrick be the one for Natasha?  Will this be her forever guy or is he going to be another one that got away?

Sloan is a very successful Marketing Director at Emerson & Stuckey.  He has worked there for years and his future is looking very bright.  Sloan just happens to works in the same office as Natasha.  Sloan and Natasha are best friends, have been since childhood.  They tell each other everything.  Sloan is protective over Natasha like she is over him and they will be friends to the end.  When Essence starts working there with them she takes a liking to Sloan.  Will this bring Sloan back to life or will he revert back to his old ways?  Is it possible to find love with Essence or will he just be alone?

Freinemies is a novel about love and trust.  The characters blend so well together that  you are engrossed in the book from the first page.  They make you want to grab and shake some of the characters and some you want to give a hug to.  De Coster captures you from early on in the novel and keeps you there until the end wishing and wanting to know more.  I look forward to reading more from this author.  Congratulations Janie on another successful novel!

Espresso Served With Love by Sharon Blount

espresso served with loveTwo things in the world are intense ~ love and coffee.  Love is something that everyone is looking for or if they already have it they want, no they need to keep it!  Love is an addiction, just like coffee.  Those who love coffee really love and they love what they love and are hard pressed to try something different.  I know you don’t see the similarity in these two things but love and coffee are both drugs, so to speak.  Everyone wants them, once they get them it is hard to kick it.  The good thing is when you get the love that you deserve it is soothing like a good cup of coffee and it makes you happy.

Avery Greenlace works at her family business Coffee Brat Brewery where she is basically running the place.  Her parents are in charge of the actual business but Avery is the one who does everything from finding new coffee beans to naming the newest brews at their multiple locations.  Avery is one of three Greenlace heirs but she is the most vested in the Brewery.  While Avery is content she is not happy, she really wants her own happiness and that doesn’t include Coffee Brat Brewery.  That is not where her heart is, but who can get her to follow her heart?  Will she follow her heart or go with the usual program?

Mykal Collier is a hometown hero.  He started in Java City, went to college then into the NBA where he was successful.  Mykal was happy in the NBA with all the fame and fortune, or so he thought.  Mykal was struggling with events that had happened in his life and that caused him to rethink life.  Returning to Java City, Mykal has an agenda.  He is coming back to be with his loved ones and to follow through on his dream.  The question is will everything that he loves be successful or with he be chasing ghosts for the rest of his life.

Espresso Served With Love is a book about hope and faith.  Blount is writing about redemption and the way that this is written makes you root for the underdog and the underdog is YOU!  She is showing that life affects everyone and it is about how you go about getting your happiness that will make you successful.  The book could be me, you  or anyone that we might know.  This book is very relatable and for a freshman novel Blount has hit the nail on the head.  I look forward to many more novels from this independent author, she has stories in her heart.  Congratulations on your first of many novels!

Espresso Served With Love is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle edition only).

Violated by Jo Ann Felton Carter

DC30F089-19DC-49B3-89E9-B55E48A55E95When you hear the word violate in today’s climate most people think the same thing: sexual abuse.  When you look it up in the dictionary the definitions are: to fail to show proper respect for; break, disregard; to do harm to the person or especially the chastity of; interrupt, disturb.  With the definitions of the word violate showing, is there any way that this word doesn’t equal hurt and pain?  Is there any way that you can stop someone from violating you?  How do we break this horrible cycle?

Le’Nita Marie Spivey is a beautiful person, both inside and out.  She has grown up in a very large very loving family.  She comes from a solid Christian based home and has grown up instilling the same teachings and values in her children that were instilled in her.  The one thing that is holding Le’Nita back is her past.  She is being the best person that she can be but her past won’t let her be great like she knows she is.  How can you deal with the demons of your past and still have a bright future for you and your children?  Is it possible to survive your past and have a prosperous future?  Will your actions of the past damage your children or future relationships?

Violated is a book about trust.  When you trust a person to stand by you and have your back and they don’t you feel violated.  When you have a person in your life that is not supposed to hurt you but they do it makes you feel some kind of way.  It is about trust and rebuilding trust, trust in others and trust in yourself.  The story line in the book is real.  It is emotional and it is unfortunately today’s reality.    This book is going to help someone who is and/or was in a similar situation.  This book will show you that healing is possible and for that I thank Mrs. Carter.  It takes a brave person to write a novel like this on a subject that is so taboo.  It flows and gives you the desire to continue reading even though you might feel slightly disturbed.  This is a great book and I would gladly recommend it to anyone.

Violated is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback) and Barnes and Noble (Paperback and Nook Book).

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter by Kristofer Clarke

IMG_5930Relationship: a state of affairs existing between those having relations or dealings.

Everyday we have relationships with various people.  Our relationships include our spouses, families, co-workers and friends.  In any relationship the one thing that make it work is trust.  If  you can’t trust the people who you interact with on a daily basis it makes for a very strained situation.  Some can be fixed and some fall apart.  We have to figure out what is indispensable and what is not worth the trouble.

Kennedie and Winsor Oliver had a great marriage.  They were deeply in love and had a handsome son Tanner to prove their love for each other.  Kennedie was raised by her grandmother and that gave her a kind heart.  Even though Kennedie had a rough start in life with her mother she still persevered.  One bright day upon returning home, Kennedie had the rug snatched right from under her feet and her life started to spiral.  How had she missed this?  Could this be possible?  What will she do from here?  Will this darkness last forever or will she make it through this trial?

Michaela and Zachary McKnight marriage just ok.  It wasn’t for lack of trying but  something just wasn’t there.  You think back to a time when you looked at each other and all you saw was love but now you are trying to figure out what happened.  Is there a certain event that makes your love start to dwindle or is it just time?  How do you know when to say when?  How do you react when you realize that the person that you love has betrayed you?  Do you try to make it through the storm or do you throw you hands up in the air?

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is a book about trust in relationships.  Not just marriages but family relationships where they have been tried and tested.  These stories are about everyday people just living their lives but that’s what make it a good read.  These characters are very relatable and you might see your lives in theirs.  The story flows with such an ease that it makes it easy to continue on to the end.  I applaud Clarke for touching on taboo subjects to show us that healing is obtainable.  Thank you Kristofer!

It Ain’t The Coffee That’s Bitter is available for purchase through Amazon.com (both Kindle and paperback), Barnes and Noble (Paperback only) and on the authors website:  http://www.kristoferclarke.webs.com.
