Violated by Jo Ann Felton Carter

DC30F089-19DC-49B3-89E9-B55E48A55E95When you hear the word violate in today’s climate most people think the same thing: sexual abuse.  When you look it up in the dictionary the definitions are: to fail to show proper respect for; break, disregard; to do harm to the person or especially the chastity of; interrupt, disturb.  With the definitions of the word violate showing, is there any way that this word doesn’t equal hurt and pain?  Is there any way that you can stop someone from violating you?  How do we break this horrible cycle?

Le’Nita Marie Spivey is a beautiful person, both inside and out.  She has grown up in a very large very loving family.  She comes from a solid Christian based home and has grown up instilling the same teachings and values in her children that were instilled in her.  The one thing that is holding Le’Nita back is her past.  She is being the best person that she can be but her past won’t let her be great like she knows she is.  How can you deal with the demons of your past and still have a bright future for you and your children?  Is it possible to survive your past and have a prosperous future?  Will your actions of the past damage your children or future relationships?

Violated is a book about trust.  When you trust a person to stand by you and have your back and they don’t you feel violated.  When you have a person in your life that is not supposed to hurt you but they do it makes you feel some kind of way.  It is about trust and rebuilding trust, trust in others and trust in yourself.  The story line in the book is real.  It is emotional and it is unfortunately today’s reality.    This book is going to help someone who is and/or was in a similar situation.  This book will show you that healing is possible and for that I thank Mrs. Carter.  It takes a brave person to write a novel like this on a subject that is so taboo.  It flows and gives you the desire to continue reading even though you might feel slightly disturbed.  This is a great book and I would gladly recommend it to anyone.

Violated is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback) and Barnes and Noble (Paperback and Nook Book).

Better Late Than Never by Kimberla Lawson Roby (Rev. Curtis Black series book 15)

bltnFinale ~ the close or termination of something, the last and often climactic event or item in a sequence.  That more than accurately describes this novel.  We all knew this day was coming but for it finally to be here is surreal.  This is the 15th and final book in the Reverend Curtis Black series and it has been an awesome ride but all good things must come to an end.  We have been through every emotion possible with this man and we continue to come back, that is the sign of a great author.

Curtina Black is the youngest of Reverend Curtis Black children and she has fallen right in line with his other children.  Curtina has been as close to perfect since she has been with Curtis and Charlotte but as of late she has discovered the quickest way to torture her parents, by being a typical teen.  It doesn’t matter what Curtis and Charlotte does, they can’t seem to get anything right according to their youngest daughter and likewise she is seeming to do everything wrong in her parents eyes.  Who will break first and will be the consequences if any?  Will the Black family survive this last child and the trials and tribulations that she is sending them through?  Is this marriage strong enough?  Who will come out the victor?

Better Late Than Never is a book about love and forgiveness.  There are several situations going on in this final novel in the Reverend Curtis Black series but the one thing that is understood is love conquers all.  We have been with the good Reverend since the beginning with Casting The First Stone, we have seen wives come and go, lovers come and go and children coming from every direction but through it all the one thing that is constant is love.  I love the way Roby directs her characters because they could be you, me or anyone that we know.  The writing is so realistic that it makes you want to search for the REAL Reverend Black!  I am sorry to see this series end BUT maybe Rev. Black will visit in a standalone book.  So long Reverend Black, it has been a pleasure!

Better Late Than Never can be purchased nationwide everywhere you buy your favorite books.

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine by Carla Terrell

9781985300620_p0_v2_s550x406Differences are what makes you unique.  There are many things that cause us to be different but at the same time it is what makes us similar.  Love is an act that is obtainable by everyone and everything but sometimes things are not supposed to love one another ~ that is according to the ones who feel like they speak for everyone.  We are in times where love appears different but who says that different is not good for us?

Austin Valentine is a god-loving, god-fearing man who loves all people.  He is business partners with his friend from high school and he is engaged to Haley, the love of his life.  When Austin get stranded in an elevator with a stranger for hours, conversations lead him to rethink his life and his thinking.  How could he be living life and been blind to life at the same time?  Is it possible that he has been wrong all this time?

Simone Watson is a beautiful, single African-American woman who is an interior designer.  There is nothing in her life that she would change, life is good.  A chance meeting with a stranger along with a conversation gives Simone something to think about, but why?  Simone has everything all figured out, so why is this stranger giving her pause?

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is a story about love.  The issues and problems that faces these characters is their race.  This is an easy but intense read.  For as much as society doesn’t want to deal with race, it is on the fore front of many minds.  This book has a nice flow to it and the author gives us something to think about.  I love Terrell’s work and I look forward to more.

Something Peculiar About Austin Valentine is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and Paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback) and everywhere you purchase your favorite books.

The Book in Room 316 by ReShonda Tate Billingsley

The book in room 316Angel ~ a spiritual being superior to humans in power and intelligence.  Do you believe in angels on earth?  We have all said that when a loved one passes away that they are watching over us but is it possible to have a guardian angel?  We all have met someone where their actions just made us think, “Wow where did he/she come from?  They were right on time!”  Is it just good luck or do we have a higher power looking out for our well-being?

Savannah Graham is a happily married woman, or so she thought.  She has had some recent tragedies in her life that she thought she would never bounce back from, but she did.  Then the ultimate betrayal happened and she just knew life as she knew it was over.  How can she bounce back from this latest tragedy or will this be her downfall?

Ollie Moss was happily married for over 50 years to his beloved Elizabeth.  When illness took Elizabeth from Ollie he didn’t think he would survive without her.  He has his children and grandchildren but there is nothing like your wife to have by your side.  Will Ollie get through this or will he succumb to the sadness?

Anna Rodriguez is a housekeeper at the famous Markham Hotel.  She is a hard-working  single mother of three and she does everything for them within her power.  Anna has been such a help to so many others but who is around when she needs help?

The Book in Room 316 is a book about faith.  It is about having your faith tested, losing faith and trying to get it back.  The story is told from the views of the different characters trying to see if there is any way that they can be helped and help themselves.  There is a six degree of separation feel going on because they will all cross paths at some point in this book.  Reading this books makes you question the characters and yourself.  You are thinking “Could something like that happen to me?”  I love books that make you talk to the characters or ask questions of yourself.  I love Billingsley work and she doesn’t disappoint with this one.  This is a book for everyone, great job!

When The Vows Break by Janie DeCoster

when the vows breakOur society’s idea of marriage comes in many different forms nowadays.  The one thing that is constant is you BOTH have agreed to forsake all others ~ but do we really know what that phrase means?  Forsaking all others means of course being with only your spouse but in addition to that it also means putting your marriage and your spouse above everything else, except God of course.  When you start to put things in front of your marriage you lose sight of the real purpose, to love and honor them forever.  Were you being truthful when you entered into this agreement or were you being selfish?

Pastor Sidney Teal is the pastor and founder of Holy Word Holiness Church.  He has a beautiful wife, Olivia and three beautiful children and a very successful church.  They have worked hard at keeping up appearances but something has been feeling off in their marriage as of late.  Could it be that Pastor Teal is spending so much time at the church he is losing his connection with his wife or is there something else underlying?  Being a pastor should he just have the upper hand on relationships or should just being human like the rest of us come into play?

When The Vows Break is an intense novel.  I went through many emotions while reading and at one point had to stop reading to prevent from crying.  You are so drawn into the story line that you almost forget that you are reading a book, it feels more like a lifetime movie or a major motion picture.  You are so in tune with the characters and they are so relatable that you feel their turmoil.   The writing in this novel just flows and keeps you right in the mix of the story and you are almost relieved when it is over so that you can finally stop holding your breath.  I always enjoy DeCoster’s novels and this one is no different, as usual I look forward to more!  Great job!

When the Vows Break is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback only) and anywhere you purchase your favorite books.

Broken Spirit by Rose Jackson-Beavers

broken spiritTo be in someone spirit there has to be major love and trust involved.  That means that you should be operating as one person, one soul.  When something is done to break that trust it is hard to recover from that.  That simple act can change the person that you are into someone who is brand new, someone who doesn’t trust anymore, someone broken.  Is there any way to recover from something like that or do you just live your life not trusting anyone?

Stephanie Whitmore is a successful woman with everything going for her.  She has a thriving non-profit, beautiful home, family and friends that love and support her and  her fiance’ Donnie that makes her smile on a regular basis.  When Stephanie finds out something about Donnie that devastates her, she is wondering if she will ever love again.  What do you do when it seems like joy as you know it is over?  Who do you turn to?

Broken Spirit is a book about faith.  It helps you to see that things aren’t always as they seem and you can survive your situation.   Beavers has shown us that her writing is movie like, it feels like you are watching a movie while you are actually reading.  Her storyline is strong and she keeps you engrossed in the saga from open to close. The story flows at a nice pace, it doesn’t seem hurried or drag along, you will possibly finish it in one sitting.  I would recommend this book to EVERYONE who loves a great read.

Broken Spirit is available on Kindle.

Sin Of A Woman by Kimberla Lawson Roby (A Curtis Black Novel book 14)

SIN OF A WOMANSin is sin.  No sin is greater or less than any other one.  How should you proceed when a person feel like they can sin but throw your sins back in your face?  Do you continue to deal with them or do you separate yourself from the situation?

Raven Black is now divorced from Dillon Black, son of the infamous Curtis Black and she has started her own church.  She was doing good with Dillon but she is doing much better on her own.  The thing that Raven would like to achieve is a greater success than Dillon ever had but what will it take to achieve those goals?  Who or what would try to get in her way to stop Raven from being the success that she sees in her future or will she obtain it by any means necessary?  Does Raven have what it takes or does she even know what it takes to be considered a success?

Sin Of A Woman is part of the Curtis Black series but he only plays a very small part in this novel.  This book is about the women that came in contact with him and/or the Black family and how life is for them.  We have characters if you are caught up with the series you will recognize so you will understand.  Roby has written a story that will keep us in the loop with the Black family without missing a beat.  Once again, I applaud Roby for writing a story that is relatable to her fans and in general an all around great story to participate in.

Sin Of A Woman is available for purchase everywhere your favorite books are sold in various formats: Hardback, Paperback, Kindle, Nook and Audible.

The Pastor’s Husband by Tiffany L. Warren

THE PASTOR'S HUSBANDNowadays everyone is looking for something to believe in whether it is spiritual or something tangible just as long as it is something to make everything alright.  What happens when that something that you are putting all your trust and faith in isn’t the real thing?  Do you continue to believe or do you rebel against everything?

Nye Hempstead and her husband Gregory have a very successful church.  Nye has a gift from God where she can see what he wants her to reveal to others, some may call her a prophet.  Gregory is her co-pastor and he is great in his own right but Nye’s gift has helped many people in her church.  When that gift fails to give some the desired result, how will that play out for her followers?  Will they continue to follow Nye?  Will this affect the church?  Will this affect her ministry that she and her husband had made plans for?  Is this something that she can bounce back from or will she and her church suffer?

The Pastor’s Husband is a book about standing by your spouse through the good and the bad.  How we deal with people when we know that they are true and genuine until we discover that they aren’t.  Warren writes this novel so that you know and understand everyone’s viewpoint and feel like you are watching this on the screen.  The characters compliment each other and the story is smooth flowing.  I enjoyed reading this novel and I look forward to reading more from this author.

The Pastor’s Husband is available in various markets including Kindle, paperback, hardback, audible and Nook.

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kimberla Lawson Roby (book 12 Curtis Black series)

The Ultimate BetrayalWhen you betray someones trust you are walking a line that you may never regain.  If you are granted that luxury of being trusted once again you should do everything in your power to stay in that person good graces.  But we all know that there are people out there who will take advantage of the grace that they have been given and mess up again and again until there is no more trust left.  How do you break this cycle and get people to trust you or will you ever be able to be trusted by anyone again?

Alicia Black has had some bad days and she have had some better days that is for sure, but life seems to be getting better since her and her ex-husband Phillip Sullivan are getting re-married.  Alicia has been praying for this since realizing her mistake and she vows that she will do the right thing this time.  Alicia is excited about the opportunity to get a second chance to build a life with Phillip and she can’t wait to be his wife but he is making her wait for the perks of being is wife.  That simple task she knows is the right thing to do but it makes her vulnerable to suggestion from sources that are not in her best interest.  As if on que, Alicia’s past comes back to haunt her and as much as she tries it is a struggle of good and evil.  What is Alicia to do and how will Alicia cope with this outside pressure?

The Ultimate Betrayal is book number 12 in the Curtis Black series.  While it is more focused on Curtis daughter Alicia, he does make appearances in the book.  The dialogue between family members and friends in this book make it seem more like real life than reading a book and because there are so many books in this series you know everyone involved so you are absolutely talking to the characters while you are reading.  It is a very easy read because you are familiar with the characters but it is in no way predictable.  Roby keeps you on your toes with this family and their situations and circumstances and that is what keeps this series going.  There is NEVER a dull moment.  I always look forward to the next chapter and I hope that this series never ends.  The characters could have stand alone books and still hold your attention because they are just that strong.  Kudos to Roby on yet another great novel!

The Ultimate Betrayal is available for purchase anywhere you find you favorite reads.  It is available in hardback, paperback, audio cd, audible, Kindle and Nook editions.

The Prodigal Son by Kimberla Lawson Roby (Rev. Curtis Black series book 11)

The Prodigal SonThe word prodigal according to Merriam Webster dictionary means ~ carelessly and foolishly spending money, time etc.  But in this case it is the reverse of the biblical verse Luke 15:11-32 The parable of the lost son.  What do you do when you are oldest son but not the preferred child?  Do you still try to win your father’s affection or do you just stand on the sideline and watch the show?

Matthew Black and his wife Raquel are living LAC ~ life after Charlotte ~ with all the drama and trouble that she caused them with the kidnapping of their son MJ.  Life has not been easy and trying to get back on track has been really stressing on Matthew but he loves Raquel and he is willing to try anything.  When things start going sideways in his marriage once again they are really on a path that Matthew is not sure if he is willing to try to bring it back from. While he loves his wife, but is his love going to be enough this time?

Dillon Whitfield is so glad to be around Curtis Black, that is all he ever wanted.  He is so amazed at everything with Curtis but what he isn’t amazed with is the Black children.  He understands that Curtis kids have the right to be around, he doesn’t want them around while he is around.  They have had him all of their lives now it is his turn, he has missed out on 30 years and he won’t miss out on one more day!

The Prodigal Son is not what you expect from the Curtis Black series because you don’t have much from Curtis himself but you DO have just as much of the Black family drama.  You have the children going through their own situations with the parents in the background but they are always there providing that right amount of umph that you need to say “I know that Curtis/Charlotte has something to do with this!”  You have the emotional ups and downs and it is the easy flow of the characters that you just know that it is a book written by Roby and you are glad about it and you can’t wait on with it.  Congratulations on another great novel!

The Prodigal Son is available everywhere novels are sold and in Kindle, Nook and Audible book forms.
