Playing The Game Of Love by Janie DeCoster

Unconditional love . . . What does that really mean? Does that mean what you say during your wedding ceremony is supposed to be set in stone? Does it mean absolute love? That you love that person through anything and everything? In sickness and health, for better or worse, forsaking all others, until death do you part? When does that stop being the standard? When does it stop being love and turn into a power struggle?

Donovan Lattimore has been a mover and shaker all his life.  He comes from a good family and he was the star of his high school football team.  He did not want or need anything.  He had a following that was like no other, boys who wanted to be associated with him and girls that wanted to be had by him.  There was nothing more exciting than to be around Donovan Lattimore.  Donovan could have anything that he wanted, except for Charlene.  Charlene was far from a groupie and she was not going to be just another conquest for Donovan.  How was Donovan going to keep getting things his way?  Who was going to come out ahead, Donovan or Charlene?

Winston Taylor is Donovan’s best friend and the number two guy on the football team.  Winston keeps Donovan practically in line along with being one of his biggest cheerleaders.  While Winston is Donovan’s guy, Dawn is Winston’s girl.  He loves Dawn and she loves him.  They are part of the football team/cheerleader travelling group but sometimes Dawn just wants Winston to herself.  When that happens, there is a tug of war between her and Donovan who feels like wherever he is, Winston should be there also.  Who is going to win when it comes to getting Winston’s attention?  His best friend or the woman that he loves?

Playing The Game Of Love is a book about power.  Technically if you are in love, that should be your power but when you have other events in your life it can prove to be difficult.  The characters in this book have you sitting on the edge of your seat with their actions and shenanigans.  The drama is keeping you talking to the characters and telling them what they should do!  I love books by DeCoster, she keeps you wanting to read more and more.  The flow of the story is perfect, you can read this without stopping if you have the time.  Great read keep up the great work!

Frienemies by Janie De Coster

frienemiesIn these times, words have different meanings than what they used to have.  You can not use certain words with everyone because everyone is not deserving of the pure  definition.  Take the word friend, it used to mean something if you were called a friend.  It meant that another person trusted you enough to consider you like you were a part of their family.  With the way that society is now with everyone for themselves, the word friend is thrown around so loosely that you might as well be a stranger.  For that very reason, you have to choose your words and friends wisely or you might just end up with someone who you would consider an enemy rather than a friend.

Natasha is a beautiful, single, successful woman.  She should be every man’s dream but she seems to be striking out in the love department.  Just when she feels all hope is lost she meets Derrick Perkins.  He is a smooth brotha, easy on the eyes and Natasha is very attracted to Derrick.  Things look like they are going good between Natasha and Derrick.  Could Derrick be the one for Natasha?  Will this be her forever guy or is he going to be another one that got away?

Sloan is a very successful Marketing Director at Emerson & Stuckey.  He has worked there for years and his future is looking very bright.  Sloan just happens to works in the same office as Natasha.  Sloan and Natasha are best friends, have been since childhood.  They tell each other everything.  Sloan is protective over Natasha like she is over him and they will be friends to the end.  When Essence starts working there with them she takes a liking to Sloan.  Will this bring Sloan back to life or will he revert back to his old ways?  Is it possible to find love with Essence or will he just be alone?

Freinemies is a novel about love and trust.  The characters blend so well together that  you are engrossed in the book from the first page.  They make you want to grab and shake some of the characters and some you want to give a hug to.  De Coster captures you from early on in the novel and keeps you there until the end wishing and wanting to know more.  I look forward to reading more from this author.  Congratulations Janie on another successful novel!

Is He The One by Janie De Coster

IS HE THE ONE PHOTOHave you ever looked at a person and said to yourself “that is the man/woman who I am going to spend the rest of my life with?”  I’m sure we all have, but what makes us so sure that person is the one for us?  Is it their looks, or maybe their income or could it be the way that they showed you their dreams?  How do you know who “your” forever person is?

Jayree Kennedy knows what she wants.  She is going to find and fall in love with her dream guy and live happily ever after.  She knows he is out there she just hasn’t found him yet.  She continues to tell her sister Teresa and her best friend Linda but they just let her have her fairytale.  Is there someone out there for everyone or is Jayree just wasting her time?  How do you know when you have finally met “THE ONE” and is he/she everything that you imagined?

Teresa Wilson Jayree’s sister,  has felt like her bond with her sister isn’t as strong as it used to be.  Those two girls could talk about anything, that is until Teresa met and married Ray Ray Wilson.  Ray Ray is the one topic in the family that can stir the pot and make it boil over, but Teresa doesn’t care because she loves him.  There is nothing that can separate Teresa and Ray Ray and she is going to live her happily ever after.  How does it feel when your happily ever is starting to feel like the happy is slipping away?  Is there something that can make everybody happy again or was it all just a dream?

Linda is Jayrees’ best friend since forever and they are thick as thieves.  Their bond got stronger when Lisa’s fiance Phillip left Linda at the alter the previous year.  Jayree was there for Linda like a friend should be but Linda decided to take Phillip back.  Phillip provided Linda with everything that she would need to look and be successful but was that enough?  Is having the material things enough or should she continue to shoot for your forever dream?

Is He The One is a story about one thing . . . achieving happiness.  Three different couple take roads to achieve happiness but they go different ways to get it done.  The characters are relatable because this could be you and your friends on any day and that is what makes it an easy and enjoyable read. I enjoy reading De Coster’s work because she makes you feel like one of the family.

When The Vows Break by Janie DeCoster

when the vows breakOur society’s idea of marriage comes in many different forms nowadays.  The one thing that is constant is you BOTH have agreed to forsake all others ~ but do we really know what that phrase means?  Forsaking all others means of course being with only your spouse but in addition to that it also means putting your marriage and your spouse above everything else, except God of course.  When you start to put things in front of your marriage you lose sight of the real purpose, to love and honor them forever.  Were you being truthful when you entered into this agreement or were you being selfish?

Pastor Sidney Teal is the pastor and founder of Holy Word Holiness Church.  He has a beautiful wife, Olivia and three beautiful children and a very successful church.  They have worked hard at keeping up appearances but something has been feeling off in their marriage as of late.  Could it be that Pastor Teal is spending so much time at the church he is losing his connection with his wife or is there something else underlying?  Being a pastor should he just have the upper hand on relationships or should just being human like the rest of us come into play?

When The Vows Break is an intense novel.  I went through many emotions while reading and at one point had to stop reading to prevent from crying.  You are so drawn into the story line that you almost forget that you are reading a book, it feels more like a lifetime movie or a major motion picture.  You are so in tune with the characters and they are so relatable that you feel their turmoil.   The writing in this novel just flows and keeps you right in the mix of the story and you are almost relieved when it is over so that you can finally stop holding your breath.  I always enjoy DeCoster’s novels and this one is no different, as usual I look forward to more!  Great job!

When the Vows Break is available for purchase through Amazon.com (Kindle and paperback), Barnesandnobel.com (Paperback only) and anywhere you purchase your favorite books.

Something New 2: An Interracial Romance by Janie DeCoster

SOMETHING NEW 2 BOOK COVER (1)Nowadays life is hard enough without throwing something in the mix that is totally going to shake things up.  Love is supposed to be just that, love, plain and simple.  When people put stipulations on who and how to love that is when the world becomes a difficult place to live.  What happens when you defy what people think is right and do what you feel is right?  Is it easier to just go with what everyone else wants or with what you want?

Brylane Robinson is an everyday ordinary girl.  She is kind, smart and beautiful with a heart of gold.  Anyone would be lucky to have Brylane, but she has chosen to be with  someone who no one understands.  Should she let love dictate who she should be with or should she let events of the past determine who she is with?  How can you be happy in life if you are not in charge of your own destiny?

Tobias Benton is a catch!  He is handsome, single, rich and due to inherit the family business.  All Tobias has to do is follow what his father is telling him to do but that is not working out for Tobias.  How do you tell your heart that you are not supposed to have someone when it only beats for that person?  Who or what do you follow?

Something New 2 is the follow-up to Something New which introduces us these characters and the issues they are facing being an interracial couple.  What they are dealing with are some very real issues that goes on everyday in today’s society due to race relations.  The characters are relatable and the story line strong.  It is a story that you want to see through all the way to the end.  I enjoy DeCoster’s work and look forward to reading more of her work.

Something New 2: An Interracial Romance is available on Amazon.com on Kindle.

Something New: An Interracial Romance by Janie De Coster

something newIn the world that we live in today it seems like race determines everyones motive.  You can barely talk to anyone without race coming into the conversation, since when did race become so important?  When and how did race make decisions for the smallest of things?  Are we a better society if we let race rule our decisions or should we let fate take it’s course?

Brylane Robinson is a smart young woman with her entire future in front of her.  She has a job and she is taking classes to get her degree.  She used to believe in love until her now ex-boyfriend gave her a reason not to.  Brylane has dreams, dreams to leave the South side of Chicago and that mentality of we can’t do better because of where we are from.  She wants the American dream and she knows she can get it, on her own terms.  Will Brylane’s destiny be changed on that one fateful day that she is involved in a car accident?  Will she continue on course or will she detour and fall into that mentality that she has tried so hard to get away from?

Tobias Benton is a legacy kid.  His family has been in business and politics for as long as he can remember and he is next in line to take over the family business.  He thought that he was content with his current life until he determined that he is following a dream that was created for him NOT by him.  He does not have the same views that his family has and that is going to create waves for him.  How does he have the life that he deserves and keep his family happy at the same time?  If a decision is put in front of him, will he go along to get along or will he be the independent man that he was raised to be?

Something New is a romance novel.  From the title you can see that it is an interracial novel but the romance overrules the racial.  It is written about two people in love that just happen to be of a different race but that does not overpower the novel.  I love the way that De Coster makes this a standalone but it is clear that it could go into series.  The characters just flow with each other and you can see this playing out like it is right in front of you.  It has you asking questions of the characters and even talking back to them.  I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read, I read it in one day so you could too.

Something New: An Interracial Romance is available everywhere you buy your favorite books, Amazon.com (both paperback and Kindle editions), BN.com (paperback only).

Men@Play by Janie DeCoster

menplayDedication vs loyalty, is there a difference?  When you are dedicated to someone or something there is nothing you won’t do for them.  When you are loyal, you have a unwavering allegiance to someone or something.  Is there a point when your dedication should be put on hold or once you are loyal you remain loyal no matter what?  Who determines when and at what cost?

Donovan Lattimore is what the older generation would call “a piece of work.”  All through his high school career and after into adulthood he felt like he was entitled and if you didn’t do things his way Donovan was a force to be reckoned with.  It wasn’t until Donovan met a girl named Charlene Hamilton that he was starting to question his actions like never before.  What was it that this girl had that made Donovan attempt to change his way of thinking?  Could the almighty Donovan Lattimore be under the spell of the one person who no one would ever thought that he would be associated with?  Or does he have an agenda for Charlene?

Winston Taylor is the best friend of Donovan.  Some would think that Winston doesn’t have a brain of his own the way he is Donovan’s’ “yes” man.  The one thing that has Winston’s brain all twisted more than Donovan is his girlfriend Dawn.  Dawn is the one person who can break the spell that Donovan has over Winston but when they go head to head over Winston there are casualties in that war, but who will that be?

Men @ Play is a book about relationships.  Some are easy and some are not but the one thing that is consistent is that there is a constant relationship of some sort going on at all times.  The characters interact well and they keep the story flowing very easily.  The book have some twists but it is very easy to follow.  There were some grammatical errors that if you were not paying attention to the story you might get confused (like mixing up names) but all in all this is a good story.  I would suggest to the author if it can be updated and corrected on Amazon, I would do that.  I have read this author before and I know her work and this is not the norm.  It is still a book worthy of purchase.

Men @ Play is available for purchase on Amazon.com in Kindle form.

What My Sister Didn’t Know 2 by Janie DeCoster

what my sister didnt know 2

Love is a word that is thrown around but not taken seriously by some.  Many claim to be in love but at the moment of temptation, everything is out the window.    Relationships are hard enough without one of the parties involved to have their dedication questioned.  How do you deal with current relationships or even new ones when there are trust issues?  Do you build a wall stronger than The Great Wall of China or do you step out on faith, the choice is up to whom?

Lamonte Singletary and his ex-wife Gade are doing the best that they can to raise their son, Brice.  Lamonte is still having pains about the dissolution of his marriage but he is trying to move on with his life.  Gade on the other hand is hanging in limbo trying to figure out what she can do to restore her marriage.   Is there life possible after betrayal or will Gade just live out her days with regret and sadness?

Joe Burrels is trying to be a better person.  Joe recognizes that he has been hurt and is hurting people in the process so that he doesn’t have to feel for anyone.  What is it that can make Joe turn his evil ways around?  Will he finally achieved that relationship that he desires in his subconscious or will Joe continue to have a love ‘em and leave ‘em type of relationship with everyone?

What My Sister Didn’t Know 2 is the continuation of the turmoil that we experienced between Lamonte, Gade, Clay, Saphire and Joe in the first installment.   The drama and intensity continues  while we experience what life is like after breakups.  The characters have a flow that is enjoyable for the reading community but doesn’t make you wait for the connection.  There were small editing  errors but nothing that would take  away from the story.   Once again I have enjoyed DeCosters’ writing and I will continue to look forward to her work.

What My Sister Didn’t Know by Janie DeCoster

what my sister didnt knowFamily and love are two words that are supposed to go hand in hand.  Your family is there for you no matter what and the love is always going to be there.  What happens when those two words are fighting against each other?  Should you just give up and walk away or will you do what is right and forgive and forget?  Family and love are the two best thing that could ever happen to you and two of the worse things that could happen.

Saphire and Gade Michaels are sisters who couldn’t be more different. Saphire is older and more everything.  Saphire is what is called a BBW ~ Big Beautiful Woman and she uses her curves to get whatever she wants.  Some would even add Bold to the mix because she goes for anything and everything that she feels she deserves without even batting an eye.  Gade on the other hand is a beautiful petite woman who is shy and has always lived in the shadow of Saphire.  Gade has never felt good enough and that has always been what helped to keep their sisterly relationship strained.  When Gade finally has the upper hand over Saphire (or so she belives), Saphire decides to help her little sister along.  Little does Gade know Saphire is still using her special charm to disrupt anyone’s life that may get in her way.

What My Sister Didn’t Know is very intense.  Anything that has to deal with any type of family issues is going to be intense but DeCoster took it to another level.  This novel is very well written and the characters have you sitting with your mouth open while reading because of their antics.  You will go through a range of emotions but you will absolutely love this read.   This book is an re-release.  If you didn’t read it the first time around, don’t slip on it a second time!   I wholeheartedly recommend this book and this author to anyone that is looking for a new read in their collection.  Kudos!

What My Sister Didn’t Know is available on Amazon.com (Both Kindle and paperback) and BN.com (Paperback only).
